Heat wave claims 11 more in Vidarbha

NAGPUR: With eleven more deaths reported, the toll due to suspected sunstroke mounted to 43 in Vidarbha on Tuesday even as the region continued to reel under searing heat.

Reports of fresh casualties came from Nagpur, Buldhana, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Amravati and Gadchiroli district following the severe heat wave conditions prevailing in those areas.

Chandrapur in eastern Vidarbha, where over 30 coal mines and a super thermal power station are operating, recorded the maximum temperature of 48.3 degree Celsius.
The Gandhi district Wardha, which is also known as no industry district, recorded 48 degrees Celsius while the temperature in Nagpur was 47.2 on Tuesday.

Accordingtoreportsreaching the divisional headquarters, latest victims were identified as: DamodarMehandole,Champabai Jambhulkar, Anil Hatwar (all Bhandara),KisanHajare,Vithoba Bawne (Chandrapur), Keshav Narule (Gadchiroli), Harishchandra Chatarwar (Buldhana), Laxman Bramhne, Laxman Moghale and Vithoba Borghare (all Amravati district).

The person who died of suspected sunstroke at Mansar in Nagpur district is yet to be identified, the Nagpur police informed. Among the 43 victims in the region, 13 were from Nagpur district alone.

The city police claimed that six persons died of sunstroke in Nagpur on Monday. On the other hand, Dipti Dongaonkar, the dean of Nagpur Medical College and Hospital said that there might be various reasons for such deaths. “It is yet to be confirmed that all the six people died of sunstroke,“ she point- ed out.
