This is Mumbai's hole truth potholes, sinking paver blocks make an appearance before the rains
Even as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has undertaken a programme for preventive maintenance on chronic pothole roads, the bad patches exist on some stretches like the Mithaghar Road at Dahisar, the road near Shanti Ashram bus depot at Borivili, the Nursing Lane at Kandivili and Ramchandra Lane at Malad. Meanwhile, paver blocks on portions of the Link Road, the SV Road stretch between Malad and Kandivili, Kapad Bazaar at Dadar, etc, have settled. Civic officials, however, claimed that the number of bad patches was less compared to last year. A senior civic official from the road department said that the utilities were to be blamed for most of the shortcomings. "The utilities seek permissions for digging up roads to carry out repair work. But reinstatement of these excavated portions is not carried out properly on many occasions," the official said. Apart from that, the rains will also mean more trouble for motorists and pedestrians commuting via roads being used by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority to set up some of the skywalks. Even though construction on the skywalks has been stopped, restoration of roads that were dug up for setting up the pillars was not carried out properly, the officials said.
