About SDNP

                The Project on Sustainable Development Networking Programme (SDNP) has been sponsored by the India-Canada Environmental Facility (ICEF), New Delhi. The Project has been executed by the Ministry of Environment and Forest (EI) Division and coordinated by the Institute for Ocean Management, Anna University, Chennai. The Project duration is for 2 years from June 2005.

            The objectives of the project are to develop a SDNP website, which can support the Sustainable Development of resources by integrating the resources available in the existing ENVIS centres network. About 20 thematic areas and the involving centres were identified as SDNP partners. Bi-annual e-newsletters will be published to integrate the themes,which can provide and support the sustainable management planning. The most direct beneficiaries of ENVIS Network on Sustainable Development will be the information users involved in the sustainable development process.

Objectives

            ENVIS Centre at IIPS has been identified as one of the ENVIS Centres on the thematic area “Population, Environment and Poverty” under SDNP - ENVIS of ICEF Small Grant Programme.As a part of the SDNP chapter, the SDNP-ENVIS thematic area Centre has developed a separate web page with a linkage to the ENVIS website. The web page contains following key items: 

·      Emerging Issues : Issues relating to the concerned thematic area “Population, Environment and Poverty”.  

      ·      Databases : Web links with

             several databases and information

             resources centre on the concerned

             subject-area.

     ·      Conventions and Treaties:

             Information on International treaties

             and conventions in the concerned

             area.

     ·      News Clippings : News clippings in

             the national dailies related to the

             thematic area.

     ·      Organizations : List of

             organizations/institutions and along

             with the linkages related to the

             thematic area.

     ·      Government Departments : List of

             Government Departments with

             linkages in the subject-area

             assigned.

    ·       Policy Matters : Policy decisions in

             the assigned thematic area along

             with possible linkages.

    ·       Case Study : List of case

             studies/success stories relating to

             the thematic area.

    ·       Publications: List of Publications

             concerning the thematic area along

             with linkages wherever possible.

    ·       Agenda 21: Any information

            mentioned agenda -21 concerning

            the thematic area.

    ·       Links: Any other important links

            concerning the area which would be

            useful.

    ·       Listservs: Details of listservs with

             linkages pertaining to the thematic

             area.
