The growth of population an offshoot of civilization, has laid greater demand on the resources available. Considering that each individual as a consumptive unit the explosion of population leads

an implosion of the environment in which man lives. Because, the mankind consumes the very contents of the environment such as air, water and other resources like food, fuel and fiber and replace them with degraded products of consumption and increased consumption due to population growth leads faster degradation of the resource base and environment.

The growth of population, each individual unit of such population being a consumptive unit, should be considered seriously because the growth of population beyond a particular size is a liability both for the mankind and for the environment in which the posterity of mankind has to live perpetually. Controlling the growth of population conserves the future for mankind!

Environmental information system node on Population and Environment is ready to built a database and disseminating them through its website.

The current issue is the first issue on Population-Environment published by Population-ENVIS node at IIPS funded by Ministry of Environment & Forests under Environmental Management Capacity Building Technical Assistance Project (EMCBTA). The main object of this Bulletin is to bridge the gap between the knowledge resources and researchers. This issue will provide some space for researchers to publish or share their have an open discussion on the topics. The available information on Population-Environment in the form of data and text would be collected and placed before the researchers.

Also the node would welcome comments as well as suggestions to improve this bulletin and activities.
